Kiwanis honor local students

Three students have received the final ‘Student of the Month’ honors from the Sunnyslope Kiwanis Club for the school year. They were honored at a luncheon held on May 14 at Sunnyslope High School.

Zachary Pavlisick is a senior at Central High School where he is active in sports and also on the honor roll. Once he graduates he plans on attending college in Minnesota. His dream is to become an elementary school teacher so he’s planning on majoring in secondary education.

The other two Student of the Month award winners were Miguel Alvarez, a seventh grader at Royal Palm Middle School, and Domenique Duvall, an eighth grader also at Royal Palm.

Alvarez was described as being a very inquisitive young man. He loves math and will be in accelerated math courses next year. His counselor said he routinely scores between 96 and 97 percent on his tests.

Duvall is a cheerleader at her school both on the field and off. Her counselor said she loves helping other students and her best subject is science.

The Kiwanis honor outstanding students each month as a way of applauding their academic and leadership successes and encouraging them to continue to set an example for their fellow students. All students receive a framed certificate, a pen, a bumper sticker and a T-shirt.
