HB Hanratty’s Pub Under new ownership

Diane Quan and Steve Dragovich, the new owners of HB Hanratty’s Pub, bring their decades in the fine-dining world to the vintage dive bar on Camelback and 7th Street. Subtle changes, from a new kitchen and a small bar menu to tiny martinis and happy hour specials, add to the neighborhood feel of this 30-year Phoenix landmark.

The new munchies compliment new drink specials. Quan brings her bartending experience from Fleming’s to the table to create “Tiny Tinis,” 4-ounce offerings of standard and new cocktails for only $4. To celebrate new ownership and the end of a tough economic year, Hanratty’s will have a “4-3-2” Countdown Happy Hour until 2010.

For the rest of the year, you-call-it cocktails will be $4, bottled beer $3, and drafts $2 every night from open to close.

Some things about the bar that many call the “Cheers of Camelback” won’t change, though. Vintage beer signs still line the walls. Three well-kept pool tables flank the seating areas and dartboards with real-deal steel-tipped darts are still available in the back. The enigmatic man on the pub’s sign has been an icon on the Camelback strip since 1979, and he still sports his handlebar mustache, goatee and cowboy hat.

    HB Hanratty’s is open seven days a week from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. at 537 E. Camelback Road. Call 602-274-3067.
