Art therapy center opens for children

A brand-new program has begun in an arena that parents have long considered in high demand: art therapy. Artplay, which offers counseling to groups of children using art-making to explore and heal emotional issues, has partnered with PEDI Center for Therapy to provide this service to children in the Valley.

Artplay and PEDI Center, a well-respected education-for-development practice, began their first art therapy sessions for kids in January at the PEDI Center office, located at 15414 N. 7th St., Suite 3.

In addition, Artplay is bringing its unique brand of art/play activities for children to Desert Song Yoga, 4811 N. 7th St. Starting on March 4, a group art session will meet on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. for four consecutive weeks.

Artplay sessions, which also can be found at area churches and pediatric offices, are designed to help children learn about their emotions by allowing them to explore freely through art. Themes include, but are not limited to, sadness, anger, shyness and fear. This process helps children who have trouble verbally expressing themselves learn to articulate how they feel.

For more information on what themes are being held, the availability, and the cost and times of the groups, call 602-329-1347, or visit www.artplayhealing.com.
