A seven-day, residential overnight camp from July 7-24 for children ages 8 to 16 with cancer or who have had cancer. Along with canoeing, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, archery and swimming, campers might choose to build a birdhouse, learn to cook or even write a newsletter. Sunrise Sidekicks, also for ages 8-16, is the only camp in Arizona for siblings of those with cancer. It gives brothers and sisters of cancer patients a change to share friendship and laughter with others who are living similar experiences. Campers will choose from a similar list of activities as those attending Camp Sunrise; runs July 9-16.

A summer camp experience for children ages 8-15 with epilepsy, held June 13-19. Activities include nature studies, hiking, picnics, campfires, sports, arts & crafts, horseback riding, rock climbing, and more. Fee is $350 if application is received by April 15, $375 thereafter. Fee includes food and lodging. Financial assistance may be available.

A summer day camp for children and young adults (aged 5-22) with disabilities. Camp is Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Session I runs June 8 through July 1; fee is $110. Session II is July 6-July 22; fee is $90. Register in person at the Pyle Adult Recreation Center, 655 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, on either April 19 or May 4, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Youth burn survivors, ages 6-15, are invited to attend camp June 13-19. Lots of smiles are seen in the cool pines while campers are horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing, swimming, performing skits, making crafts, and pushing their personal skills during the ropes course. Cost is free if the campers meet the medical criteria.

Camp HONOR is a camp specifically for children and youth ages 8-17 with bleeding disorders or an HIV/AIDS diagnosis (with referral), and their siblings. Summer camp is both a crucial break from the strain of living with a chronic illness and a perfect opportunity to provide life-skills for children whose medical problems have often robbed them of childhood. It also is a welcome relief for protective parents to be able to send their children for the first time to summer camp that can meet the special needs and conditions of each child. Camp HONOR will be held from May 30-June 4. Cost is $35.

    An overnight camp reaching out to grieving children, ages 6-18, and their families to provide a neutral and safe environment where friendships are created and healing can take place. Camp Paz for Grown-Ups runs concurrently with the children’s camp. Adults focus first on their own grief journey, and then transition into how to best help the grieving children in their life. Camp Paz for Grown-Ups is not mandatory for adults whose children are participating. Camp takes place April 17-18; cost is $50 per camper. Transportation is not provided. Partial scholarships are available. Registration fee includes lodging, food, activities, and take-home items.

The leader in weight loss camps since 1968. Youth ages 7-17 not only lose weight through fun activities, they also learn how to keep it off while building self-esteem and making great friends. Activities include horseback riding, paintball, aerobics, swimming, cooking classes, theater, and more. Session I runs June 13-27, Session II is June 27-July 11, and Session III is July 11-July 25. Cost is $2,400 for one session, $4,600 for two sessions and $6,600 for all three sessions.
