Help those without homes in the summer

The Salvation Army has begun efforts to collect needed items to distribute to the homeless. During the summer months, eleven Hydration Stations throughout the Valley, each manned with volunteers, distribute water, sun protection items, and respite and safety information for those in need. One is typically located on Hatcher Road in Sunnyslope. The purpose of this effort is to hydrate, educate and provide referral assistance to people in or potentially in distress.

The Salvation Army encourages businesses, civic groups, churches and more to hold a drive to collect the needed items, including: 8-20 ounce bottles of water; hats or bandanas (new or slightly used); lip balm, sunscreen or sun block (new only); and cash donations to help purchase any items not donated.

For more information about donating or volunteering at a Hydration Station, call Amy Lopez, director of Special Projects, at 602-267-4170 or e-mail Amy.Lopez@usw.salvationarmy.org.
