Open House, High

Holy Days celebrated

    Congregation Merkaz Ha-Iyr, North Central Phoenix’s home for Reform Judaism, offers Jewish educational programs for children, adults and families. To learn more about these programs, an Open House Meet & Greet Brunch is being held 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at 7901 N. Central Ave. RSVP at the website www.congregationmerkaz.org

    Merkaz also will hold High Holiday services at the newly restored historic Cutler Plotkin Jewish Heritage Center, 122 E. Culver St. Services include:

     Rosh HaShanah, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, and 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9. Light Kiddush lunch following services.

     Yom Kippur Kol Nidre: 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.

     Yizkor, Healing Service, Neilah: 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. Break the Fast immediately following services.

Beth El cash course

for High Holy Days

    An adult education crash course on the High Holy Days will be offered by Beth El Congregation on Sunday, August 29, from 2 to 4 p.m., at 1118 W. Glendale Ave.

    “The class will review themes and customs associated with the High Holy Days as we set the tone for the upcoming season of reflection, repentance and renewal,”  tated Beth El Education Director Janette Silverman, course instructor. This class will enable Jewish people of all levels of observance to find enhanced meaning in their observance of the “Days of Awe.”

    The Jewish High Holy Days will begin with Rosh Hashanah at sunset on Wednesday, Sept. 8. There is no fee for this course and everyone in the community is invited to attend. For more information and registration, call 602-944-3359, ext. 113.
