Cinderella, Father Goose in puppets

Image   The Great Arizona Puppet Theater presents “Cinderella,” Dec. 26-Jan. 27. A beautiful girl, a wicked step-family, a fairy godmother, a handsome prince and transparent footwear all add up to true love, lots of laughs and happily-ever-after in this extremely popular version of the famous fairy tale, performed with elegant hand puppets.

The theater also offers a special presentation of “Father Goose’s Tales,” Jan. 30-Feb. 3. Mother Goose is away for the day and Father Goose has to take care of all her chores, including the storytelling. But try as he might he just can’t seem to get the stories right! Guest Artist Nappy’s Puppets from Connecticut presents this delightfully silly show that promises to be great fun for everyone!

Show times are Wednesdays through Fridays at 10 a.m.; Saturdays at 10 a.m. & 2 p.m.; and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children. The Great Arizona Puppet Theater is located at 302 W. Latham St. in Phoenix.  Call 602-262-2050 for reservations, directions and additional information; or, visit www.azpuppets.org.

Build-A-Bear seeks Huggable Heroes

The search is on for incredible kids to be named the 2008 Huggable Heroes by Build-A-Bear Workshop. A Huggable Hero is any young person, 18 years of age and younger, who is making a positive difference in their communities or around the world. We all know them, and now it’s time to help nominate a young person to be recognized and honored for all of their hard work and dedication to make the world a better place.

Nominations will be accepted for Huggable Heroes through Feb. 8. Anyone is eligible to submit a nomination—parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, friends, teachers, organization leaders, or the young people themselves.

Nominations for the 2008 Huggable Heroes will be narrowed down to a field of 141 semifinalists, then 32 finalists and ultimately 12 Huggable Heroes. Seven winners will be from the United States and Puerto Rico. In addition, two Build-A-Bear Workshop Associates will also be chosen as Associate Huggable Heroes.

Each Huggable Hero will receive a prize worth $10,000 ($7,500 in the form of an educational scholarship and $2,500 from the Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation to be donated to the charity of the hero’s choice). In addition, they each will receive a trip to a special location where the winners will be honored for their good deeds, meet the other Huggable Heroes and participate in a photo shoot for the 2009 Build-A-Bear Workshop Huggable Heroes calendar.

Nomination forms are available at any Build-A-Bear Workshop store or online at www.buildabear.com.
