Credit Union West, with a branch at 350 E. Dunlap Ave., donated a computer lab to the Sunnyslope Youth Center last month.
The lab, which features eight refurbished towers with monitors, keyboard and a shared printer, was dedicated on Aug. 18 at the youth center, located at 1702 W. Peoria Ave. The estimated value of the donation was $2,000, not including the time spent in upgrading the software and hooking up the computers by Credit Union West IT personnel.
Credit Union West also will be funding the lab’s high-speed Internet connection during the one-year pilot phase of the program. The computers were adjusted to have certain websites blocked for the protection of the children as well as the city-run facility. The purpose of the computer lab is to assist students with their homework, and adults with job searches and continuing education.
Rose M. Hardenburger, senior vice president for Credit Union West, said the company likely will host some educational seminars in the future, including how to post your resume to the Web.
