FloCrit, others get grants from BOV
Following an extensive application and review process, The Board of Visitors awarded a $1 million endowment last month to Florence Crittenton at a community luncheon hosted by the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix.
Florence Crittenton, established in 1896, has changed the lives of thousands of troubled girls, making it one of the oldest not-for-profit agencies dedicated to the well being of girls and women in Arizona.

Currently, Florence Crittenton serves over 800 at-risk girls, ages 12 to 21, annually by providing therapeutic group home care, intensive therapy, health care, education and mentoring. Its goal is to provide abused and neglected girls with safe, alternative living environments and the tools with which to make positive decisions in their lives.
The Board of Visitors’ 100th Anniversary Endowment was open to any community organization or agency that benefits a community health issue that positively affects women, children or the elderly. The endowment will be awarded over a five-year period on a matching-grant basis, allowing the successful recipient the potential of earning over $1.4 million through the process.
Other grant recipients for the 2007-08 year included Beatitudes Center DOAR, the American Lung Association’s Camp Not-A-Wheeze, Body Positive, the Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix Dental Clinic, Central Arizona Shelter Services Children’s Dental Clinic, the Children’s Action Alliance, Crisis Nursery, the Foundation for Senior Living, Gabriel’s Angels, Hacienda Inc., Phoenix Rescue Mission Changing Lives Center and Ryan House.
