Lower stress with free tax-assistance program
    Are you feeling some stress as you think about preparing their taxes in time to meet the April 15 deadline?
    AARP tax-aide is now in full gear, helping people prepare their taxes at sites throughout the state through Tuesday, April 15. Tax-aide is a free community service program that offers free tax counseling and preparation service for middle and low-income people, with an emphasis on people over 60. Currently, the program is underway at churches, libraries and community centers. The service is also available for people who are homebound.
    In North Central Phoenix, the free tax-aide service is available at: Sunnyslope Community Center, 802 E. Vogel Ave., 602-262-6661; and the Devonshire Senior Center, 2801 E. Devonshire Ave., 602-861-1920. Dates and times vary; appointments are encouraged.

Shadow Mountain Senior Center events
    Shadow Mountain is one of the newest Phoenix Senior Centers. Located at 3546 E. Sweetwater Ave., the center provides people 60 years or older, or adults with disabilities, with nutrition programs, group meals, educational opportunities, recreation and social activities, information, referral, advocacy, transportation and counseling/casework services. While the Sunnyslope Senior Center is being remodeled, seniors from the Sunnyslope community are invited to visit Shadow Mountain.
    Upcoming programs include:
• “AARP Safe Driving Class,” 12:30-4:30 p.m. March 10 & 11. Learn driver safety and save on your insurance. Course is two 4-hour sessions. Pre-registration is required. Course fee is $10.
    • GARAGE SALE, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, March 14. Donations are still being accepted. If you are more interested in shopping, then don’t forget to come treasure hunt!
