Library seeks new card design Phoenix Public Library is seeking an artist to design a new library card that is colorful, playful and reflects the library’s new tagline campaign, “Yours to Explore.” The new card is scheduled to debut in the fall of 2008. The library will host an exhibit of the winning artist’s work in @Central Gallery in 2009. @Central Gallery, located on the first floor of Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Ave., presents monthly exhibits featuring the work of Arizona artists. Artwork may be created in any size, but will be reproduced on a 2.125-inch by 3.375-inch card and should conform to those proportions. Deadline for submission is 5 p.m. Friday, April 18. Free programs for all at Yucca Kids from 5 to 12 years old and their families are invited to a new season of Super Saturday! events, beginning at 1:30 p.m. every Saturday. Learn about flying toys and make your own to take home during “Things That Fly, Part 3: Dizzys–Catapults and Gliders,” April 12. Then on April 19, Storyteller Roz Brown shares “Fables for Young and Old.” On April 26, discover the world of chemistry with Mad Science of Scottsdale and make your very own oozing slime. On May 3, enjoy a Mexican fiesta, with music, dance and crafts presented by Southwest Learning Sources. This special Cinco de Mayo program lasts until 3 p.m. Teen Fun Fest continues 3-5 p.m. Saturday, April 19, with a chocolate candy-making workshop. Chef Doris will teach you how to make hot, sweet and sticky chocolate candies! Space is limited so register now at the library. The Yucca Book Discussion Group meets 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8. Join the group as they discuss the One Book AZ title for 2008: “These is My Words” by Nancy Turner. Light refreshments will be provided. Yucca’s Classical Music Series continues Tuesday, April 22 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Hear music of the masters and learn about their often operatic lives and personalities. Join The Phoenix Poetry Society 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Come share your work and ideas. Join in the discussion or simply listen and enjoy. Rummage sale, more at Acacia The Biannual Teen Rummage Sale returns to the Acacia Branch Library 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 12. Come shop and help support the library raise money for teen programs. Upcoming teen programs include Karaoke Monday, 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 7; Game Day, April 21; and Monday Movie Night, 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 28. For adults, the Friends of the Library-Acacia Chapter meets the third Wednesday of the month for a short review of library business, followed by a book discussion.
