Kiwanis honor local students
Three local students were honored by the Kiwanis Club of Sunnyslope during its “Student of the Month” luncheon, held March 13 on the campus of Sunnyslope High School.
Desert View Elementary fifth grader Brianda Valdez, who recently immigrated to the United States, was described as being a hard worker, smart, ambitious and whose English reading comprehension is improving daily.

Sunnyslope High School senior Cynthia Rios maintains a 4.0 GPA and is active in the Viking Ambassadors Club. Rios, who enjoys math and science, plans to attend Phoenix College in the fall and then transfer to a four-year university where she will study engineering.

The Kiwanis honor outstanding students each month as a way of applauding their academic and leadership successes and encouraging them to continue to set an example for their fellow students. All students receive a framed certificate, a pen, a bumper sticker and a T-shirt.
