Keep teens occupied and out of the heat
The Acacia Library offers several “cool” programs this month to help keep your out-of-school teen off the street and out of the heat. Programs are for youth ages 12-18.
Local comic book artist and illustrator Ryan Cody will present a workshop focusing on the fundamentals of making art for comics or graphic novels, 6-8 p.m.
Monday, June 9.
On June 23, Chef Doris will teach teens how to make hot, sweet, and sticky chocolate candies! The program takes place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Space is limited, so register now at the library front desk or by calling 602-262-4636. This program is made possible by the support of the Friends of the Library, Acacia Chapter.
Watch a movie on the big screen TV with other teens during Monday Movie Night, 6-8 p.m. June 30. Popcorn and soda provided by the Library Teen Council.
Just so the ’tweens don’t feel ignored, the library hosts Tween Time the second Wednesday of each month for children ages 8-12. The next program is set for 3-5 p.m. June 11 and will include games, movies, crafts and snacks.
The Acacia Library is located at 750 E. Townley Ave.

Library has new language database
Phoenix Public Library now offers its customers a new language database, Auralog, to learn English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Dutch. Customers can access the free database in the library or from home with their Phoenix Public Library card.
Auralog centers on developing skills needed to succeed in learning a language including: reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary and grammar. The software has more than 2,000 hours of learning per language, gauges progress as you learn and suggests exercises best suited to your needs.
Auralog will be replacing Rosetta Stone, which has decided to discontinue selling its online database to public libraries. Rosetta Stone will no longer be available at Phoenix Public Library after June 30.
