VYT journeys to Egypt in ‘Aida’
Valley Youth Theatre opens its 20th anniversary season with Elton John and Tim Rice’s “Aida,” the epic tale of love, loyalty and betrayal. Set in ancient Egypt, “Aida” is the contemporary musical reincarnation of the tale of love between a soldier and an enslaved princess—a love that condemns them to death, but ultimately transcends the vast cultural differences between two warring nations.

Youth from North Central Phoenix who appear on stage in the Nubian Chorus include Michael Frongillo, Cameron Jones, Emmi Hoyos and Olivia Perry.

The show runs Aug. 8-24 at the Herberger Theater Center, 222 E. Monroe. Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $17 to $33 per person, adults and children 2 and up, and can be ordered through the Herberger Theater box office at 602-252-8497 or online at www.herbergertheater.org.
