‘Food for Fines’ returns in April Pay your library fines and help restock the pantries of Valley food banks April 13-25, during Phoenix Public Library’s annual “Food for Fines.” Fifty cents will be deducted from your overdue fines for each non-perishable food item donated at any of the 15 Phoenix Public Library locations. The libraries cannot accept homemade food or food in lieu of lost or damaged books. Donated food will be distributed to Desert Mission Food Bank and St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. College Depot build begins College Depot is one step closer to becoming a reality at the Burton Barr Central Library. Construction began on the full-service college resource information center and should be completed by July. Providing greater access to higher education, College Depot will offer Phoenix-area residents information on planning, financial aid and college admissions. The project will create a full-service information center on the second floor of the central library, to be open during library hours. The center will have 25 computers, including 10 desktops and a cart equipped with 15 laptops. Students and parents can complete college searches, admissions applications and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms on the spot with a financial aid expert on hand to provide assistance. Acacia closes temporarily Acacia Library, 750 E. Townley Ave., will be temporarily closed from March 30 to April 19 for renovations that will increase staff efficiency and prepare the space for additional computer stations that are part of the 2006 Citizens Bond. New Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and closed Sunday.
